The “New” National Butterfly Habitat
Butterflies inspire me. Their metamorphosis a symbol both for life and for art. Every nascent story starts in the cocoon of a writer’s imagination, and it’s only with great effort that it can wrestle its way free and soar.
Another inspiration to me has always been Washington D.C. It’s one of my favorite cities in the world. Okay, maybe my favorite. I fell in love with it when I was only thirteen–even after I was nearly kidnapped by some Egyptian pedophile with diplomatic immunity, but that’s another story for another day. The point is, I was just changing into a woman and I wanted to see everything the city could offer.
Of course, there’s too much to see in D.C. in just one trip, so I returned again and again. I thought finally I may have seen all there was to see, but today I learned about the Smithsonian’s Butterfly exhibit.
I can’t wait to check it out, and because it’s very likely going to be the setting for a scene in a forthcoming Silhouette Nocturne novel, I don’t even mind that it’s not free (except on Tuesdays). I’ll have some research to do!
