Autumn Contest: Greek Mythology in Modern Media
I need your help brainstorming books, movies, and songs with overt elements of Greek Mythology in them! I’ll be giving away the winner’s choice of either a $10 Amazon.com gift certificate or SHADOWHEART, Laura Kinsale’s fabulous fantasy with romantic elements.
To win the contest, you just have to post here on my blog with one unique book, movie, or song featuring Greek Mythology. For example, you might post: The Percy Jackson & The Olympians Movie or maybe Suzanne Vega’s Calypso song. (Except you can’t use either of those because I said them first.)
As long as nobody has posted your book, movie, or film before you did, I’ll enter you in a drawing to win. In fact, I’ll give you one raffle ticket per book, film, or song that you post. And because I need lots and lots of ideas, I’m going to be running this contest for two months with two separate drawings. So you have double the chance to win.
(Note: By entering the contest, you agree to let Stephanie Draven use your name on this website and her blog if you win. Your email address will never be sold or transferred to any third party. Stephanie might, however, contact you with the very occasional update on her writing and career. At your request, however, you’ll be promptly deleted from her mailing list.)

I have lots more, but I won’t be too greedy here. However, there’s also The Odyssey, with Armand Assante as Odysseus. That was a really good TV production with a great cast of characters!

Oh yeah, if you’re going to get into Pandora’s Box, you can’t leave out Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.

Hi Stephanie –
Books – Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series is full of Greek Mythology – lots of gods and of course centered around Pandora and her box.
TV Show – my all time fav, Battlestar Galactica (the re-imagined version). Even though it’s a sci-fi, they did a brilliant job of blending in Greek mythology as the religion of most of the characters.

What about The Madonna Key storyline from Silhouette Bombshell. I think it had some mythology in it.

Hello-
I hope this message finds you well, I am writing to you regarding theweb series “O-Cast” that went live online Monday October 26th. Here isa bit of info on O-Cast; created by a team of over 50 recent collegegraduates in NYC:
“O-Cast is a mockumentary web series created by the twelve Olympian
gods of Greek mythology to broadcast their new lives as 20-something
New Yorkers. Comedy ensues as they combine forces to convince the
mortals of their modern relevance and inspire a new generation of
believers. Shot in high-definition and broadcast in short episodes
online, O-Cast merges ancient legend with the power of viral video.”

I don’t know if you’re still running a contest, but my personal favorites are by Sophocles:
Ajax, Electra, Philoctetes, The Women of Trachis, Oedipus (top of list favorite), Antigone.
Other gods and heroes with fun stories:
Bellerophon, Theseus, The Epigoni, Meleager and the Boar, Prometheus, Europa, Heracles, the Last Tantalides . . . I could go forever.
Also a spin-off of Greek mythology (still a great read): C.S. Lewis’ “Till We Have Faces”
Mission: Impossible II also has a Greek mythology reference with Bellerophon and Chimera.
Also, a new “Clash of the Titans” is coming out this year, featuring Sam Worthington (from Avatar) as Perseus.

I already picked a winner for this contest Jessi, but I’m running a winter one now if you want to enter it!
