How Stephanie Draven Spins Greek Mythology

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Ok, I couldn’t be more tickled about this feature story in Romantic Times Magazine’s online blog today. The article goes through each of the stories in my Mythica series and compares them to the actual mythology and then demonstrates how I twisted each story to make it a romance.

Here’s just an example:

Book Four: “Siren Song”

Greek Myth Element: Sirens. The sirens are by far some of the most enchanting creatures in Greek mythology. Seductresses capable of luring sailors to their doom with their captivating singing, these Greek creatures are some of the most famous. However, according to Greek myth, they spend most of their time on land.

Draven’s Take: The author gives sirens a contemporary spin for her fourth story in the series. Chloe is the bombshell lead singer of a popular indie band. No one has resisted her soulful crooning except for naval officer Alex, so of course that’s the one man that Chloe is interested in. However, Alex knows a secret that not even Chloe has guessed, her voice is magical and that’s why she’s become so popular. Alex recognizes that his fellow navy forces can’t help but become entranced by Chloe’s song. But can Alex explain the truth to Chloe before he falls under her spell? It’s up to him to protect his men and hopefully get the girl.

I’m Like a Reformed Scrooge Today

Friday, December 16th, 2011

Update 12/27/2011: A Winner Has Been Chosen. This Giveaway is Closed.

I’ll be honest. I’ve been in a scrooge-esque mood lately. I haven’t wanted to enter anything, win anything, read any samples, click here, vote for this or that, promote anything, link to anything, comment on anything or even answer my email.

But if there’s a time of year to embrace the madness and get into the spirit of the season, this is it!

Poisoned Kisses CoverNow, I love that scene at the end of a Christmas Carol when Scrooge has seen the light and starts handing out gifts willy nilly. Consequently, I’ll be giving out a digital copy of my debut novel, Poisoned Kisses, a Greek mythology-inspired paranormal romance that received an RT nomination for best first series. (I can give it as a gift through Amazon or a Nook/Kobo compliant format through Kobo’s store.)

I’ll also give away a sneak preview, an Advanced Review Copy, of my forthcoming paranormal erotica, The Fever and the Fury (PDF)…which should really keep you warm on a cold winter’s night.

And what am I asking you to do to win this prize? An arm? Your first born? Must you recite the secret password? No. All you have to do is post in this thread that you want it and I’ll randomly choose one person to win. If you want to sign up for my very infrequent but often snarkilicious newsletter, that’s great, but you don’t have to. If you want to review my books (especially on Amazon or Goodreads) that’s even better!

But really, you don’t have to do anything.

That’s right, Tiny Tim, this is a free gift from me to you, no strings attached!

In Other News…

I happen to think that there’s no reason everyone in the country can’t own an e-reader at the rate that authors are dying to give them away. To that end, I’m happy to host Mistletoe Madness in which we’re giving away a Nook. (Entry form here)

Folks in this blog hop are giving away e-readers and other goodies galore. So have fun on the hop!

Romance Trading Cards for Poisoned Kisses

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Jeannie Lin is spear-heading an effort to create a collection of romance trading cards for the Romantic Times Convention 2011 in Los Angeles. To that end, I’ve come up with these proto-types. I’m pretty happy with them, but does anybody see any typos or anything I should fix before they go off to the printer?

My New Favorite Review

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Move over Romantic Times…my new favorite review for Poisoned Kisses comes from The Pen & Muse. How can I not love a book review that starts with the word wow? Also, once I read the entire review, I got the warm and fuzzies because the reviewer really gets me and what I’ve been trying to do with this series–there’s a special kind of thrill for a writer when you actually find your target audience.

Wow. I finished this book only a few minutes ago, and still all I can say is WOW. Now, I read a lot of Harlequin, and a lot of paranormal romance, and I’ve never read a book quite like this. This one is going on my keeper shelf (well, in my Kindle) for a long time. What a unique concept, and so expertly executed–an extremely passionate, engaging, thrilling love story.
