Damsel in Distress or Woman to the Rescue?

Day 10 of my 12 Day Extravaganza!

I’m giving away a free electronic ARC of my latest novella, SIREN SONG or one of my backlist titles to one reader every day for twelve days. All you have to do is answer the question of the day. (Extra points if you tweet or blog or facebook about the giveaway.)

Question: Every now and then I like to read a novel about a damsel in distress. A hero who comes to the rescue like a knight in shining armor always touches my romantic core. However, I also like stories where the heroine is the rescuer. For example, one of the things I loved best about Courtney Milan’s This Wicked Gift is that the hero believes he is a villain, that he is destroying this woman, but she ends up saving his soul. When it comes to my latest novella, Siren Song, my heroine is a plucky survivor–after what she’s been through, our hero thinks she needs to be saved, but finds that he needs her to rescue him instead. If you could only choose one kind of romance to read for the rest of your life, would it be the damsel in distress or the woman to the rescue type?

Older Heroes: Is there Room in Romance for the Silver Fox?

Day 9!

I’m giving away a free electronic ARC of my latest novella, SIREN SONG or one of my backlist titles to one reader every day for twelve days. All you have to do is answer the question of the day. (Extra points if you tweet or blog or facebook about the giveaway.)

Question: Because my series is based on Greek mythology, immortals often figure into the story, which means that there’s almost always a big age difference between my hero and heroine. Personally, I dig older men. But what about you? If you could only choose one, would the heroes you read about be older, younger, or the same age as the heroine?

Fish Tail, Fangs, Fur or Other Romantic Disasters?

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Day 8 of my 12 Day giveaway extravaganza continues. I’m giving away a free electronic ARC of my latest novella, SIREN SONG or one of my backlist titles to one reader every day for twelve days. All you have to do is answer the question of the day. (Extra points if you tweet or blog or facebook about the giveaway.)

Question: One of the pitfalls of writing paranormal romance is that your heroes can end up having some very strange characteristics that might turn a reader off. Perhaps her heart does not race at the idea of fanged, vampiric necrophilia. Or perhaps the idea of a werewolf hero seems a little bit too close to the bestial line. In the case of Siren Song, I had to deal with the potential of a big fishy tail…does anyone lust after a scaled hero? I think I found a clever way of sidestepping the potential romantic disaster–my erstwhile Naval Academy professor is very sexy–but what are your turn-offs when it comes to paranormal creatures?

Your First Music Concert Was …

Monday, December 27th, 2010

Today is Day 7 of my 12 Days of Christmas giveaway and we’re still going!

I’m giving away a free electronic ARC of my latest novella, SIREN SONG or one of my backlist titles to one reader every day for twelve days. All you have to do is answer the question of the day. (Extra points if you tweet or blog or facebook about the giveaway.)

Question: The heroine of my latest novella is an aspiring rock-star. She sings and seduces anyone who hears her…except for our hero, of course, who thinks himself immune to her charms. This made me think back to that long ago (ancient) time when I attended my first concert. It was a date and he kissed me and I forgot all about the music. Do you remember your first concert? What stands out in your memory?
